The 2012 EZ Rock "Radiothon of Hope" raised $70,000 for the Northeast Cancer Center (NECC). These dollars will be directly supporting the purchase of much-needed equipment for the NECC. The 7th annual event involved testimonials from patients and their loved ones as well as Staff of the NECC. The messages we heard over and over again were about the exceptional care that our patients receive and the dedication to improving the quality of treatment offered at the Centre.
Bead Diva
This long-standing partnership culminates in the presentation of the annual NCF Hope Jewellery Collection. The necklace, earrings and bracelet can be purchased individually or as a set. The 2012 design celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Northern Cancer Foundation in Sudbury, and honours the donors and supporters that have contributed to its success. 50% of the sale price of these items goes back to the Foundation to help carry on its mission of supporting the Northeast Cancer Centre. The collection was retired at the end of 2012 and pieces are available while supplies last.
Lockerby School "Kids Caring For Kids" in memory of Laura Cotesta
This group of dedicated students raised an astounding $54,000 during the 2011/2012 school year in memory of Laura Cotesta who lost her battle with cancer in 1996. The annual door-to-door campaign keeps Laura's vision alive and continues to honour her wish for integrated services for paediatric oncology patients in the Northeast.
Collège Notre-Dame door-to-door blitz
The Collège Notre-Dame students have raised over $500,000 since the inception of their annual door-to-door campaign for cancer. One of a number of smaller fundraisers held throughout the school year, this group of dedicated students are highly focused when it comes to supporting their community.
Laurentian University Residence "Airbandz"
Every February, Laurentian University residence students host their Airbanz for Cancer event- a high energy lip-syncing concert that always proves to be a fun-filled evening! On average, the event raises approximately $16,000 each year and is one that continues to gather strength!
Miners for Cancer
This group was established in 1996 by Allan Epps and Wayne Tonelli to try to build morale among co-workers by organizing extra-curricular events outside of the workplace. The events were so successful that when monies started to accumulate, the group decided to donate their proceeds charity. The group now host yearly hockey, golf and baseball tournaments as well as a recent (and very successful!) casino night.
Pulling for the Cure
The Walden Ladies Slo-Pitch League "Pulling for the Cure" event occurs over the second weekend of September. This annual tug-of-war competition was started in honour of one of their members who was battling breast cancer. Funds from this event are allocated towards breast cancer research.
Angels in Pink - Pink Glove Party & The Boob Tour Comedy Show
This highly-successful group of dedicated volunteers (led by Annette Cressy, breast cancer survivor) was created as a means of raising money to purchase equipment for the Northeast Cancer Centre that facilitates the early diagnosis of breast cancer. Individuals, groups and organizations within the community have responded overwhelmingly by supporting many of their fundraising events. Since inception, annual fundraisers like their Pink Glove Party and The Boob Tour comedy show have become two of their most prominent events.
Sam Bruno P.E.T. Scan Committee- Dinner & Fundraising Gala
During his personal battle, Bruno became a strong advocate of Positron Emission Tomography ( P.E.T.) scanning, a diagnostic imaging tool that has been known to help patients in the battle against certain forms of cancer as well as heart disease. His hope was to bring the scanner technology to Sudbury where other Northeastern Ontario patients could access it from the (closer) comforts of home. Although his life was brought to an early end, his legacy lives on with his family and friends who are committed to carry on his fight with an annual dinner and fundraising gala.

These clubs and agencies have been stalwart supporters of our Foundation for many years and continue to fund supportive care, research and equipment purchases.
Scrap Cancer
This is an exciting partnership between the NCF and BM Metal Services Inc. The first annual Scrap Cancer drive began in October 2010. Businesses and individuals were invited to donate their scrap metal throughout the month and the value of materials brought in were donated to the Foundation .
Hot 93.5 and Rewind 103.9- Breast Cancer Awareness month
Awareness campaigns encouraging women in Sudbury to practice regular breast self-examination and have regular visits with their health care professional, were launched during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October 2010. Beginning with "Bras over Paris," which saw a clothesline erected along Paris St. with hung bras donated by people throughout the City of Greater Sudbury. In 2011, the "Horizons of Hope" campaign was created where citizens could purchase pink balloons in memory (or in honour) of loved ones who battled the disease. Once the month-long event wraps up, the balloons are released over the skies of Science North to commemorate the occasion.
Catwalk for Cancer
The Caruso club is transformed each year into a high fashion catwalk! Kyla Roach and Sarah Reid plan, execute and even model in this show that will raise money for the Northern Cancer Foundation.
Sudbury Firefighters Calendar
Proceeds from the sale of the locally-produced 2012 Sudbury Firefighters Calendar go towards the Sam Bruno P.E.T. Scan Fund and the local Firefighters Challenge Team. Raising funds in support of local cancer care research is especially important for the firefighters, as it is estimated that they are at a much higher risk of contracting cancer than the general population due to the harmful chemicals to which they are exposed.
Merdick McFarlane CD: "Highway for Heroes"
Talented songwriter and producer Merdick McFarlane has released a CD with a collection of songs in support of patient care at the Regional Cancer Program. CDs are $20 with $10 dollars from each CD sold donated to the NCF in support of the Daffodil Terrace Lodge.
Golf Tournaments: CN Rail, Greater Sudbury Paramedics and GrillMarks Bistro
organizations host annual golf tournaments during the summer months in support of the NCF. These events were brought about by community members who wished to raise money for a cause that had touched their lives.
Fric & Frac Jewellery
The Massimilliano family at Fric & Frac Jewellery are pleased to present the "Community collection" which has been designed specifically for the NCF. This jewellery represents the relationships and support that exist between the NCF and many individuals and organizations throughout the community.
